The U.S. Department of Defense has signed a contract with Williams International worth $253.7 million. The funds will be used to increase the production of missiles, including those used in the framework of military assistance to Ukraine. This is stated on the Pentagon's website, UNN reports.
Details
The contract, awarded under the Defense Production Act (DPA), will allow Williams International to expand its gas turbine engine production capacity. This is necessary to increase the production of these types of weapons:
- Harpoon anti-ship missiles;
- AGM-158 JASSM air-to-ground missiles;
- AGM-158C LRASM long-range anti-ship missiles;
- Tomahawk cruise missiles and other high-precision strike weapons.
The U.S. Department of Defense noted that the contract is being implemented using funds provided under the DPA procurement program (DPAP) provided for in the Indo-Pacific Supplemental Security Appropriations Act for FY2024, as well as the Ukraine Supplemental Security Appropriations Act for FY2024.
It is noted that the efforts will help increase the production capacity of critical materials needed to protect against enemy aggression.
Helping to manufacture and support gas turbine engines for military applications, Williams will expand capacity and increase domestic engine production to meet the Department of Defense's demand for more precision strike weapons and unmanned systems
The Pentagon also emphasized that this contract is one of five awards made by the DPAP office in various areas totaling $290.8 million since the beginning of fiscal year 2025.
