The Reckoning Project, an initiative to document war crimes, which brought together Ukrainian and international journalists and lawyers with a victim of Ukrainian torture, filed the first-ever Ukrainian lawsuit against torture in the Federal Court of Argentina. This was reported by UNN with reference to Suspilne.

Details

On April 15, The Reckoning Project, an initiative of Ukrainian and international journalists and lawyers specializing in documenting war crimes, together with a victim, a Ukrainian citizen based in Buenos Aires, filed the first Ukrainian criminal lawsuit for torture in the Federal Court of Argentina.

By this lawsuit, the victim Mr. M (name withheld for security reasons) requests the Federal Court to investigate the torture inflicted on him by identified and unidentified Russian officials and persons associated with them, who tortured him and assisted in the torture

- the statement said.

The lawsuit provides evidence of the use of electric shock torture during the detention of Ukrainian citizen M by Russian forces in one of the cities of Ukraine occupied by them. These cases of torture correlate with the data of international organizations, including the UN, which recorded similar torture inflicted on other persons in the same place of detention.

It is stated that the torture of M was carried out with the support of institutions associated with the Russian state and their leaders.

I am one of many. I know many who have gone through much worse treatment. I want to tell the whole world about our pain. Because torture of people continues to be practiced on the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia

- said M.

Recall

Russia is systematically violating human rights, using torture, committing sexual violence, abducting thousands of children and deporting entire families from the occupied territories of Ukraine.
