The number of companies owning large land banks has sharply decreased in Ukraine

The number of companies in Ukraine that owned land plots of more than 100 hectares decreased by 66 last year. If at the beginning of 2024 there were 283, now there are 217. Of these, 34 companies are registered in the temporarily occupied territories. This is reported by UNN with reference to data from the Opentatabot monitoring service.

66 companies reduced their land banks to less than 100 hectares since the opening of the land market and dropped out of the list of large landowners of the State Land Cadastre. However, the remaining companies on the list also reduced their plots: over the year, the area of their land plots decreased by 8225.4 hectares

In general, as reported, 2,554 land plots were sold by companies in the year since the opening of the land market for business. After all, the land market in Ukraine became open for business in January 2024. However, as indicated, instead of a wave of land purchases, as predicted, businesses that owned a significant number of land plots are selling them.

"It is worth understanding that in Ukraine, the system of building fields does not have large arrays. That is, conditionally, our average fields in Ukraine are 50-60 hectares. And when you start your business, you need it to be a single array, in order to reduce the amount of costs for cultivating this land. When there are no such arrays, then there may be less interest in buying. The company is not interested when they are offered 3-4 shares in the middle of the field - because they will not even be able to cultivate them," said Denys Marchuk, Deputy Head of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council.

According to Opentatabot, the largest amount of land is currently owned by Ahrofirma Svitanok - more than 5 thousand hectares and Druzhkivka Mining Administration - 3.3 thousand hectares, and the top three largest land owners among businesses is Zernyatko-Pivden company - it owns 2.7 thousand hectares of land.
