Etna continues to affect air traffic

Malta International Airport is located approximately 220 km south of Mount Etna. It is considered Europe's most active volcano and resumed erupting last week.

Volcanic activity had previously forced Catania Airport in Sicily to suspend operations for several days. On Tuesday, it was announced that restrictions on all arriving and departing flights had been extended until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, local time.

Passengers scheduled to depart from Catania or Malta were advised to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
