The film tells the story of a Romanian evangelical family that moves to Norway. According to the plot, following accusations of child abuse, social services take the children away from the family. The lead roles in the film were performed by Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve.
For Romanian director Cristian Mungiu, this is his second Palme d'Or. He received his first in 2007 for the film "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days." Mungiu became the tenth director in history to win the top prize at Cannes twice.
Other festival winners
The Grand Prix of the festival was awarded to Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev for the film "Minotaur." The Jury Prize went to the drama "Western" (Dream Journey) by German director Valeska Grisebach.
The award for Best Director was shared by the Spanish duo Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi for the film "Black Bullet" and Polish director Paweł Pawlikowski for the film "Motherland." The Best Screenplay award was given to Emmanuel Marre for the film "A Man of His Time."
