The new head of Syria's intelligence services, Anas Khattab, announced on Saturday a plan to “restructure” all intelligence organizations that functioned under Bashar al-Assad.
The secret services, considered a tool of repression under ousted ruler Bashar al-Assad, will be completely disbanded, Chattab said yesterday, according to the state news agency SANA.
“The security institution will be reformed after all services are disbanded and restructured, in a way that respects our people,” Anas Khattab said two days after being appointed by the new government that ousted Bashar al-Assad in December.
