The Sudanese army has taken full control of the presidential palace in Khartoum, in one of the most important shifts in the two-year war with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This was reported by Reuters, writes UNN

Details

According to Reuters sources, the Sudanese army is conducting search operations in the vicinity of the palace, pursuing members of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The paramilitary group quickly seized the palace and most of the capital at the start of the war in April 2023, but in recent months the Sudanese Armed Forces have retreated and slowly advanced towards the palace along the Nile River.

The RSF, which began forming a parallel government earlier this year, retains control of parts of Khartoum and neighboring Omdurman, as well as western Sudan, where it is fighting for the army's last stronghold in Darfur, El Fasher.

It is reported that this may accelerate the army's complete takeover of central Sudan and strengthen the territorial division of the country into east and west between the two forces.

In addition, both sides have vowed to continue fighting for the rest of the country, but no attempts at peace negotiations have been made.

Recall

Earlier, AFP wrote that the Sudanese army approached the presidential palace in Khartoum by 500 meters. Explosions and gunshots were reported to have been heard in Khartoum.
