The SBI has completed an investigation into two military officers who helped suspects in the murder of police officers in Vinnytsia region to hide. One faces up to 3 years in prison, the other up to 10 years in prison.

Law enforcers have completed a pre-trial investigation against two military officers who helped suspects in the shooting of police officers in Vinnytsia region to hide. One of the defendants faces up to three years in prison, the other up to 10 years in prison. This was reported by UNN with reference to the State Bureau of Investigation.

Details

This is an incident that occurred on April 20, 2024, when two law enforcement officers were shot dead by a group of men. After that, the attackers decided to flee abroad and turned to two familiar military men for help. One of them also left the military unit in Odesa region without permission.

The SBI emphasized that despite the fact that the whole country knew that the father and son were wanted for the murder of a law enforcement officer, the suspects responded and decided to help the fugitives. З

In particular, one of them handed over a car to flee abroad, and the other went to pick up passports and a cell phone, which he later handed over to the attackers.

On April 24, 2024, SBI officers detained one of the servicemen who facilitated the escape of the suspects and left the military unit without permission. He is accused of unauthorized leaving the place of service (Part 5 of Article 407 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
Another serviceman is accused of concealing a crime (Article 396(1) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).The sanction of the article provides for a sentence of up to 3 years' imprisonment

According to the investigation, on April 20, two  men killed one police officer, injured another and fled the scene while checking a car. Law enforcement officers tracked them down and detained in accordance with Article 208 of the CPC of Ukraine in the village of Lipetske, Podil district, Odesa region.

Subsequently, two servicemen were served with suspicion of murder and attempted murder of police officers in Vinnytsia region.
