Moldovan President Maia Sandu has nominated 44-year-old financier Vasile Tofan for the position of Prime Minister of the country. Reuters reports, writes UNN.

Tofan is a senior partner at the investment company Horizon Capital and supported Sandu and her party "Action and Solidarity" (PAS) during the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections. His candidacy was proposed after the resignation of the previous Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, who served in the position for only eight months.

During a press conference, Tofan outlined three main priorities of the future government: restoring citizens' trust, improving conditions for business, and advancing the country's European integration.

He also joked about his predecessor: "I intend to last more than eight months."
Maia Sandu gave the candidate 15 days to form the composition of the government and prepare a government program for submission to parliament. It is expected that parliament will approve his appointment, as the PAS party has a majority in the legislative body.
