The Russian command is redeploying experienced units to the Kursk region, considering its defense a higher priority than the offensive in the Kharkiv region. This may indicate a serious assessment of the situation in the region.

the russian military command may redeploy a part of the northern group of troops to the Kursk region of the russian Federation, which may indicate that the kremlin considers the defense of the Kursk region more important than the offensive in the Kharkiv region, according to a new report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW)UNN reports.

Details

"It is possible that the Russian military command is now moving more experienced and better equipped frontline units from eastern or southern Ukraine to the Kursk region, but it will likely take additional time for such units to arrive in the Kursk region," the report says.

It is noted that on August 9, a Russian blogger claimed that units of the 44th Army Corps of the Russian Northern Group of Forces (Leningrad Military District) were operating near Rylsk, suggesting that the Russian military command could transfer elements accumulated by the Northern Group of Forces for its offensive in the north of Kharkiv region in response to the situation in the Kursk region.

"This blogger's statement, if accurate, indicates that the Russian military command assesses the Ukrainian operation as more significant. The significant redeployment of units of the northern grouping of forces to the Kursk region means that the Russian military command decided that the disruption of the offensive in the northern Kharkiv region was a necessary sacrifice for an appropriate response... avoiding redeployment from higher priority areas," the Institute adds.

It is also noted that large-scale redeployments of Russian troops from the frontline areas are likely to be slower, and more capable units on the frontline may begin arriving in the Kursk region in the coming days.

At the same time, ISW points out that on August 9, there were reports of further "advances" further east in the Kursk region of Russia, but probably without further moves as far north or west as previously claimed on August 8.

Addendum

the russian defense ministry claims to have "shot down" 32 drones overnight, most of them in the Kursk region of Russia. Meanwhile, Russian telegram channels have posted data and videos on the situation in the Kursk and Belgorod regions.

Also, Russian milbloggers and telegram channels wrote various information about Martynivka in the Suzhansky district.

"Suspilne has published a map of the likely advance in the Kursk region.

Meanwhile, according to Meduza, according to Russian media, the Kursk NPP has begun preparing for defense. In the afternoon of August 9, the entrances to the nuclear power plant were blocked, reported the publication "Bloknot", citing sources. An employee of the plant anonymously told Vazhnye Istori that men had been brought back to guard the plant (previously, the source had reported that only female Russian guards had been left to guard the plant). In addition, according to the source, the management recommended that NPP employees take vacations at their own expense and evacuate their children. Also, since August 7, shift workers have been leaving the NPP construction site, Vazhnye Istori wrote. On August 9, Rosatom confirmed that it had reduced the number of construction workers at the plant.

On August 10, the Russian media reported, citing a statement from Rosatom, that "the Kursk NPP is operating normally.
