On Monday, the Russian federation said that the restrictions allegedly violated its rights and prevented it from fully representing Russian athletes at the international level.

Russian track and field athletes were barred from international competitions under the auspices of World Athletics after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The organization has repeatedly extended sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes.

The Russian Athletics Federation said that the sanctions also deprived the federation of the opportunity to participate in World Athletics council meetings and votes, while preventing Russian specialists from joining coaching conferences and professional development programs.

The sanctions against Russian athletics are unprecedented. No other sports federation faces such severe restrictions

— said the federation's Chief Executive Officer, Borys Yaryshevskyi.

World Athletics said it would defend its position in court.

As we have previously stated regarding the Russian Athletics Federation's request for arbitration at the CAS, we will vigorously defend our position

— the organization said in a statement to Reuters.

The new appeal is a continuation of Russia's legal battle. On July 9, the Russian Athletics Federation separately challenged World Athletics' decision to extend the ban on Russian athletes competing in international competitions.
