Romania scrambled two F-16 fighter jets this morning amid a Russian attack on Ukraine, the country's Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday, writes UNN.
Early on Wednesday morning, April 8, the armed forces of the Russian Federation carried out drone attacks on Ukrainian civilian and infrastructure targets near the border in the northern part of Tulcea County. Two F-16 aircraft, performing air patrol, took off from the 86th Borcea Air Base, and air defense systems were deployed to firing positions.
As noted, measures were taken to alert the population in the northern part of Tulcea County, "and at 3:44 AM, a RO-ALERT message was sent."
"Radar systems tracked a group of 17 aerial targets flying in the border area without violating national airspace. The air alert was terminated at 5:10 AM," the Romanian Ministry of Defense noted.
"The forces of the Ministry of National Defense remain vigilant and take the necessary surveillance and coordination measures to protect the population and national territory," the statement reads.
