Residents of Slovakia raised nearly 2 million euros ($2.13 million) this week to help supply ammunition to Ukraine, after the country's authorities refused to participate in the Czech Republic's initiative to purchase ammunition. This was reported by UNN with reference to Reuters.

Slovaks, outraged by their government's refusal to provide military assistance to Ukraine in its fight against the russian invasion, raised nearly 2 million euros ($2.13 million) this week to help supply ammunition to Kyiv

- the statement said.

Yes, the supply of ammunition is an urgent need for Ukraine after two years of all-out war. But Slovakia has refused to participate in the Czech government's plan to purchase hundreds of thousands of artillery rounds for Ukraine, which has been joined by at least 15 allies.

Reuters reports that the campaign, which challenged government policy, was helped launch by Holocaust survivor Otto Simko, 99. He is a veteran of the Slovak national uprising against the Nazis in 1944

When I heard about the initiative of the Czech government, I was very pleased to hear that they are looking for all the ways to help Ukraine defend itself against the (russian) aggressor, because there is no other way

 ," said Otto Simko.

The fundraisers said the campaign is aimed at showing that the majority does not agree with the government's change in foreign policy after the September elections.

Addendum

Slovakia and Hungary refused to participate in financing a Czech initiative to purchase 800,000 artillery shells for Ukraine, citing their opposition to the provision of lethal weapons and their belief that the conflict has no military solution.
