In Tbilisi, the opposition protests the results of the parliamentary elections, which it considers to be fraudulent. Four opposition parties and the president refused to recognize the legitimacy of the new parliament.

In Tbilisi, on the eve of the first meeting of the 11th convocation of the parliament, protesters set up tents near the parliament building in protest against the official results of the parliamentary elections. This was reported by the BBC, UNN reports.

Details

The demonstration takes place against the backdrop of a confrontation between the ruling Georgian Dream party and opposition forces, which consider the elections to be fraudulent and are not going to recognize the results.

Despite the protests, the ruling party intends to hold a parliamentary session, as, according to official results, the Georgian Dream party won 89 out of 150 seats and has a sufficient number of deputies to start the work of the legislature. However, four opposition parties refused to join the parliament, considering it illegitimate.

It is expected that the meeting will not be attended by the President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili, who also does not recognize the election results. Representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia will also be absent.

A tight security cordon has been set up near the parliament as the situation remains tense.
