Pope Leo XIV will visit Peru in the first half of November. This was announced by Peruvian President José María Balkasar after a meeting with the pontiff at the Vatican, reports the Associated Press, writes UNN.

According to the president, the head of the Catholic Church plans to visit the cities of Puno, Iquitos, Cusco, Pucallpa, Piura, and Chiclayo, where he carried out pastoral work for almost ten years.
Balkasar noted that the details of the trip will be released later due to security and visit organization considerations.

Close connection with Peru
Pope Leo XIV was born in Chicago, but served in Peru for a long time and received citizenship of this country in 2015.
The city of Chiclayo, where he lived for almost ten years, holds special significance for him. After his election as pontiff, Leo XIV specifically mentioned it in his first speech in St. Peter's Square, calling Chiclayo "my beloved diocese."
