The Pope called for a halt to hostilities in Lebanon due to the moral obligation to protect people. Israel has intensified attacks in the south of the country and ground operations.

The Pope called for a ceasefire in Lebanon, stating that after midday prayer he was "closer than ever" to the people of the country, UNN reports with reference to Sky News.

The principle of humanity, enshrined in the conscience of every person and recognized in international law, entails a moral obligation to protect civilians from the horrific consequences of war 

- said Pope Leo XIV.

The publication notes that although the number of Israeli strikes on Beirut has decreased in recent days, its attacks on southern Lebanon have intensified along with a ground invasion.
