Poll: More than a third of Ukrainians believe that Ukraine will become an EU member within 5 years

 • 18307 переглядiв

About 35% of Ukrainians believe that Ukraine will become a member of the European Union within the next 5 years.

About it UNN reports with reference to the survey "Foreign Policy and security. Mood of Ukrainian society " conducted by Info sapiens commissioned by The New Europe Center.

with the EU, but without NATO?

Most Ukrainians do not see the interdependence between joining NATO and the EU. 53.9% of respondents believe that Ukraine can become a member of the EU without NATO membership, since these are not related processes. However, more than a third of respondents (34.4%) believe that Ukraine must first guarantee its security, which is possible only through NATO membership

- says the survey results.

It is noted that representatives of the EU itself can often hear the recognition that the European Union is not able to guarantee security to the extent that NATO can do it, despite the presence of its own analog of Article 5 – article 42.7, which is still actively appealed to in those EU capitals that do not support or consider it unrealistic to invite Ukraine to NATO.

It is also noted that high support for the option of Ukraine's membership in the EU without joining NATO may indicate a lack of public discussions about the security prerequisites for Ukraine's movement and membership in the European Union. After all, in fact, Kiev also needs security guarantees in order to protect its accession to the EU.

34% of Super-eurooptimists

More than a third of Ukrainians (34%) believe that Ukraine will become a member of the EU within the next 5 years. The same optimistic terms can be heard from representatives of the Ukrainian authorities. 17.2% of respondents chose a longer period – over the next 10 years. "As soon as the war ends" – this scenario is considered likely by 16.8% of respondents. 11% of Ukrainians spend more than ten years on the path to membership

- the message says.

There are not so many outright skeptics among Ukrainians: only 13% of respondents believe that Ukraine will never become a member of the EU.

self-criticism on the way to the EU

63% of Ukrainians believe that we need pressure from the EU and the US to overcome corruption. Ukrainian politicians at various times often resort to standard practice: as soon as foreign observers pay attention to corruption challenges, Ukraine immediately begins to talk about interference in internal affairs. "Isn'T there corruption in the EU" – double standards are another favorite trick of defenders of the"sovereignty of corruption"

- noted in the message.

At the same time, Ukrainians were mostly skeptical of such arguments, seeing in the EU and the United States reliable like-minded partners who will contribute to positive changes in Ukraine.

disillusionment with Western partners

The majority of Ukrainians (57.2%) believe that their partners are not doing enough for Ukraine to win.

Almost 40% are convinced that our partners are doing everything possible for our victory. In many of the responses of this survey, we can trace the exhaustion and disillusionment among Ukrainians. The West's approach to supporting Ukraine as long as it takes (as long as it takes) seems to be failing not only among expert circles, but also among society as a whole

- the survey says.

It is noted that it is not known how long and to what extent the West will be able to continue supporting Ukraine.

Attempts by some Western politicians to reach an agreement with Putin (perhaps at the cost of unacceptable concessions for Kiev) are becoming increasingly obvious. Premonitions of the worst also affect the assessments and moods of Ukrainians. This is especially noticeable in the results of the following question about the credibility of foreign leaders

- the survey results say.
