Law enforcement officers detained four young people aged 16 to 19.
According to the investigation, they met representatives of the Social Democrats near their campaign stand at a bus stop. It is noted that the two suspects, in agreement with two others, first threw the hats of two SPD activists to the ground, insulted them, and then attacked them.
The SDP representatives fell to the ground, and the attackers continued to beat one of them and kicked him several times in the head and upper body.
Two police officers responded to the incident. One of them was insulted with racist remarks and hit in the face with a piece of glass, while the other policeman suffered a broken metacarpal bone. The fight was stopped only after additional emergency services arrived.
Police and prosecutors are investigating.
It is noted that various political forces have condemned the attack.
The newspaper notes that the suspects, young men aged 16 to 19, traveled to Berlin on Saturday to take part in demonstrations and fights with the “leftists.” Only 63 people took part in the demonstration, while at least 2,000 took part in the counter-demonstration. About 1000 police officers were keeping order. There were also attacks on law enforcement officers and journalists. A total of 40 criminal proceedings were opened, and 31 government officials were injured.
