As part of the latest military aid package to Ukraine, which the US president announced on the sidelines of the NATO summit, Washington handed over a battery of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Pentagon.
Details
The department explains that the military assistance package, worth [225] million dollars, will provide Ukraine with additional capabilities to meet its most pressing needs, including: air defense systems and interceptors; ammunition for missile systems and artillery; and anti-tank weapons.
In particular, as part of this package, Kyiv will receive
- One Patriot battery
- Ammunition for advanced anti-aircraft missile systems (NASAMS)
- ammunition for highly mobile artillery missile systems (HIMARS)
- 155 mm and 105 mm artillery shells
- Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems;
- Ammunition for small arms
- Spare parts, maintenance and other auxiliary equipment
The package will be provided under the Presidential Decision Authority (PDA) program, under which the president can transfer weapons from US stockpiles without special authorization from the US Congress during an emergency.
