Law enforcement officers have detained a suspect in the case of a parcel explosion at a sorting center in Kyiv - the man was sending ammunition by mail, the Main Directorate of the National Police in the capital reported on Monday, UNN writes.

During the inspection of the scene, explosives experts from the capital's police discovered shell remains. Within hours, operatives from the Kyiv police headquarters, together with SBU officers, identified the sender of the package.
As the police indicated, "he turned out to be a 35-year-old resident of the Zaporizhzhia region." He was detained in accordance with procedural order.
The SBU clarified that the man, who caused an explosion at one of the "Nova Poshta" terminals in the Obolonskyi district of Kyiv on June 5, was detained by counterintelligence and Security Service investigators together with the National Police in "hot pursuit" at his place of residence in the Zaporizhzhia region.
It has been preliminarily established that the perpetrator sent ammunition to his friend in the capital. The purpose of their storage and their origin are currently being established,
According to the SBU, "the shipment contained fragmentation ammunition, the mailing of which is prohibited, and the sender of the dangerous parcel was a 35-year-old native of the Donetsk region currently living in Zaporizhzhia." "Disregarding safety rules, he sent illegally acquired weapons to an acquaintance from Kyiv," the SBU stated.
During urgent searches, law enforcement officers found data on the contents of the parcel and its dispatch on the detainee's mobile phone, the SBU noted.
SBU employees, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office, served the man a notice of suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives), and a preventive measure in the form of detention has been chosen for him.
