In the Philippines, more than 300 families were evacuated due to heavy ashfall following activity from the Mayon volcano. This was reported by the Associated Press, according to UNN.
Details
According to authorities, the cause was a collapse of lava deposits on the southwestern slope of the volcano, which triggered a pyroclastic flow – a mixture of hot ash, gases, and rocks.
No deaths or injuries have been reported; however, ash clouds covered 87 villages across three towns and significantly reduced visibility on the roads.
The ashfall was so thick that there was no visibility even on the national road
Consequences and Situation
Agricultural lands, particularly vegetable farms, were affected by the ash. Several animals also died. Cleanup operations are currently underway in the affected areas, and the situation remains tense.
It is calm again now, but the danger always exists
The Mayon volcano, which is one of the most active in the country, is at alert level three on a five-point scale.
