The Ukrainian Armed Forces hit the air base in lipetsk, where new russian Su-57 fighters were based and pilots were trained. The airfield also housed warehouses with more than 700 guided bombs.

The airbase in lipetsk, which was destroyed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, was one of the largest russian training centers where pilots were trained on new Su-57 fighters. UNN reports with reference to Defence Express.

Details

The airbase in lipetsk, where the AFU General Staff reported that an ammunition depot was destroyed, is one of the largest training centers in russia ("4th Center for Combat Use and Flight Personnel Training"). Defence Express notes that the main operation of the airfield is carried out by the 968th Experimental-Instructional Mixed Aviation Regiment, but since the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion, the base has also been used by other tactical aviation units of the russian aerospace forces to perform combat missions.

This base also hosted training for russian pilots on the new Su-57 fighter jet, which is called the "fifth generation" aircraft in russia. As of April 2023, these aircraft were recorded on Google Earth satellite images. In addition, russia claims to use Su-57s in the war against Ukraine.

However, it is unclear whether these or other russian aircraft were at the airbase near lipetsk at the time of the attack, and whether they were damaged. The airfield also hosts Su-30, Su-34, Su-35, and MiG-31 aircraft, some of which are used as combat aircraft and some as training aircraft.

Recall

On the night of August 9, the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully struck the lipetsk military airfield in the lipetsk region of the russian federation and the air defense facilities of the russian occupiers.

Later, it was reported that airfield was home to several dozen fighters, helicopters, and warehouses with more than 700 guided bombs.
