The main causes of the disaster include:
- oil spills from Russian military vessels
- noise attack due to regular military exercises and movement of equipment
- illegal traps and nets set in coastal waters
These factors lead to the disorientation of marine mammals, which as a result die and are washed ashore. The threat to the ecosystem has become another dark page in the history of the occupation, which affects not only people, but also all living nature in the region.
