The Security Service of Ukraine has served suspicion notices to five militants who stormed the positions of the Defense Forces in Mariinka and Vuhledar. They face life imprisonment. This was reported by the press service of the SBU, according to UNN.
Details
The offenders were members of the occupation groups of the Southern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces. While being part of the combat units of the aggressor country, the defendants participated in the assaults on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Donetsk region.
In early April this year, Ukrainian defenders captured the militants during fierce fighting near Krasnohorivka and Vuhledar.
Among the detainees is a resident of the temporarily occupied Crimea. In March 2024, he voluntarily joined the 40th Separate Marine Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces. After undergoing military training at training grounds in Sevastopol and Berdiansk, he was sent to storm Ukrainian positions in the Volnovakha district,
Arriving at the front, the attacker did not have time to start fulfilling the combat mission of the Russian command. Ukrainian soldiers completely destroyed his battalion, and he, as the only survivor, was taken prisoner.
Four more militants are residents of the temporarily occupied part of Donetsk region.
According to the SBU military counterintelligence, three of them joined the Russian occupation groups back in 2014. At that time, they took an active part in hostilities against the ATO forces in the area of Ilovaisk, Debaltseve and Volnovakha.
After the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, the defendants fired at the positions of Ukrainian troops in Donetsk region, using heavy mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns.
Based on the collected evidence, the SBU investigators served the detainees suspicion notices under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- paras. 1, 2 Art. 111 (high treason);
- ч. 7 of Art. 111-1 (voluntary participation of a citizen of Ukraine in illegal armed or paramilitary groups created in the temporarily occupied territory and/or in the armed groups of the aggressor state).
The offenders face life imprisonment.
