On Monday, March 31, a court in France will rule on politician Marine Le Pen, leader of the far-right National Front political party: she may be banned from participating in the next presidential election. This is reported by UNN with reference to Euractiv.

Details

Marine Le Pen, who has nominated herself for the 2027 presidential election, is accused of misusing money from the European Parliament to pay salaries to her party colleagues - about 3 million euros. According to the investigation, these actions took place between 2004 and 2016.

In addition to Le Pen, 24 other people, who are fellow politicians, have been charged. If the court finds them guilty, Le Pen could face a fine of 300,000 euros, imprisonment and a ban on running for high office for the next 5 years.

Le Pen herself considers the case against her to be political persecution.
