Magnetic storms in April 2025: when to expect them

 • 316028 переглядiв

In April, we can expect a series of geomagnetic surges of varying intensity throughout almost the entire month. Storms of medium and high intensity will occur mainly in the second half of April. This is reported by UNN.

The level of magnetic storms is assessed by the Kp-index (geomagnetic activity index):

  • 0–3: no disturbances;
    • 4–5: weak storm;
      • 6–7: moderate storm;
        • 8–9: strong storm.

          According to preliminary forecasts, storms in April are expected:

          • weak magnetic storms: April 5, 6, 30;
            • medium intensity storms: April 1, 2, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17;
              • powerful magnetic storms: April 12, 25, 26.

                Very strong disturbances can be felt even by healthy people. Moderate ones will mainly affect weather-sensitive people. And weak ones, most likely, will not bring much discomfort.

                During geomagnetic fluctuations, a person may experience a worsening of mood and well-being, irritability, anxiety, an increase or decrease in blood pressure, headache, drowsiness or insomnia, rapid heartbeat, etc.

                How to reduce the impact of magnetic storms on health

                It is important for weather-sensitive people to regularly monitor geomagnetic activity forecasts. This will allow them to prepare in advance and reduce the negative impact on their well-being.

                On these days, it is advisable to reduce physical and psychological stress, ensure adequate sleep, maintain water balance in the body (drink at least 2 liters of water per day), give up fatty foods and alcohol. Add walks to your daily routine or at least ventilate the room more often: fresh air will help improve your well-being.

                The most powerful storms in history

                The Carrington Event (1859) - the sun ejected an unprecedented amount of magnetized plasma, causing an extremely powerful storm. It destroyed telegraph lines around the world, causing fires. At its peak, the storm reached a maximum level of G5 (Kp=9).

                "Fatima storm" 1938 - massive solar flares lasted for more than 9 hours in a row. Transatlantic radio communications were completely interrupted for 12 hours. The aurora was so strong that people around the world mistook it for fire and firefighters.

                1989 - in Canada, due to a magnetic storm, an entire Canadian province was left without electricity for 9 hours. Even over Simferopol at that time, the Northern Lights were observed. Satellites lost contact with Earth, and the aurora was even seen in Mexico.
