An American man with cancer won over $2 billion from Roundup (a subsidiary of Bayer). He claims he became ill due to the use of the herbicide Roundup.

In the United States, a plaintiff has won more than $2 billion from Roundup, a subsidiary of Bayer. He claims that he contracted cancer because he used the company's weed killer.

This was reported by Reuters, передає UNN.

Details

According to the publication, jurors in the US state of Georgia ordered Bayer to pay approximately $2.1 billion to a plaintiff who claimed that the herbicide Roundup caused his cancer.

The verdict, which Bayer said on Saturday it would appeal, is one of the largest judgments handed down in Roundup-related cases and the latest setback for the group, one of the world's largest seed and pesticide producers.

- writes the publication.

The Georgia court verdict includes $65 million in compensation and $2 billion in punitive damages. Bayer said in a statement that the company disagrees with the jury's verdict because it contradicts the overwhelming amount of scientific evidence, as well as the consensus of regulatory bodies and their scientific assessments around the world.

We believe we have strong arguments on appeal to have this verdict overturned and the excessive and unconstitutional damages awards overturned or reduced.

- the company said in a statement.

It is noted that Bayer acquired Roundup as part of the acquisition of the American agrochemical company Monsanto for $63 billion in 2018.
