The Russian Federation does not consider it possible to transfer the Ukrainian Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) or control over it to Ukraine or any other country. This is stated in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia (MFA of Russia), reports UNN.
Details
The foreign policy department of the aggressor country believes that the ZNPP is a Russian nuclear facility. And following the results of the "referendums", the so-called "DPR", "LPR", as well as the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions of Ukraine, which took place at the end of September 2022, became part of the Russian Federation as full-fledged subjects.
The return of the station to the Russian nuclear industry is a fact that has long taken place, which the international community can only recognize. The transfer of the ZNPP itself or control over it to Ukraine or any other country is impossible
It is noted that all employees of the station are citizens of the Russian Federation, and "their lives cannot be played with, especially given the atrocities committed and continue to be committed by Ukrainians on the territory of our country."
Joint operation of the ZNPP with any state is also unacceptable. There are no such precedents in world practice. In this case, for example, it is impossible to properly ensure nuclear and physical nuclear safety, to resolve the issue of civil liability for nuclear damage
The Russian Foreign Ministry says that in accordance with international law, including key specialized conventions, the primary responsibility for ensuring nuclear and physical nuclear safety on its territory lies with the states themselves.
"In the case of the ZNPP, it is the Russian Federation, and nothing else," the Kremlin concluded.
Recall
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the temporarily occupied ZNPP belongs to Ukraine and it will not work for Russia. At the same time, according to him, its restoration will take up to 2.5 years.
