In Kyiv, a woman who kept a wolf and a fox in her apartment will stand trial for animal cruelty; she faces up to three years in prison, UNN reports, citing the Kyiv Prosecutor's Office.
The Obolon District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv has sent an indictment to court against a 56-year-old resident of the capital, who is accused of animal cruelty
Details
It has been established that the accused kept a wild wolf, a fox, and dogs in her own apartment in Obolon for a long period, creating a dangerous coexistence of different animal species. At the same time, the woman posted videos on her social media documenting the living conditions — in particular, the wolf was kept in a cramped cage, and the fox was on the balcony. In December 2023, the predator attacked the owner, injuring her arm and thigh. Following this, animal rights activists seized the wolf from the woman, and the corpse of a fox was also discovered in her apartment.
Currently, the pre-trial investigation regarding the cruel treatment of the fox, which led to its death, has been completed, and the indictment has been sent to court for consideration on the merits.
The animal died due to prolonged living in improper conditions — without veterinary care or proper nutrition, which affected its body.
The actions of the accused are qualified under Part 1 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
For animal cruelty, the woman faces up to 3 years in prison.
