Four journalists have resigned from Rustavi 2 TV channel amid harsh crackdowns on pro-European protests. The TV channel is accused of biased coverage of events and silencing police violence.

In Georgia, several journalists resigned from the pro-government TV company Rustavi 2 amid severe suppression of pro-European protests in the Country, Reports UNN with reference to Georgian news.

The media report that over the past day, Mariam Menabde and Vano Gavasheli, as well as spouses Mariam Janelidze and Beka Paturashvili, have left the pro-government channel. The management of the TV channel confirmed the dismissal of only the last two.

"We made this decision because of our views виходячи based on current events in the country," Dzhanelidze said in a comment to the Georgian Service of Radio Liberty.

According to her, she and her husband have been discussing the release for a long time, and the government's refusal from European integration and the attack on journalists who covered spontaneous protests put an end to this.

Dzhanelidze added that they had "adequate communication" with the management of Rustavi 2 regarding their dismissal. The head of the Information Service of the TV company Nino Shubladze, in turn, said that she did not know the reasons for the dismissal of journalists.

In recent days, Rustavi 2 has been criticized, among other things, by colleagues from other TV channels. They pointed out that the TV channel biased its coverage of the protests, keeping silent about the facts of police violence. In addition, there were no words of solidarity from P2 to the affected Media employees. There are more than 20 of them, some even needed surgical operations.

Georgian president Salome Zurabishvili, who a few days ago called on workers in various fields to disobey the solution of the "Georgian Dream", assessed the processes at Rustavi 2 positively.

"A journalist should not put up with the brutal crackdown on his fellow journalist.someone should take the first step. The fortress, by the way, is being destroyed from the inside. Now it's the turn of the public broadcaster," Zurabishvili wrote on her Facebook page.
