Zelensky was asked to respond to media reports that one of the plans of the newly elected US President Donald Trump to end the war may be the refusal of Kiev from the territories occupied by Russia in exchange for Ukraine's accession to NATO.
"If we want to stop the hot phase of the war, we need to take under the umbrella of NATO the territory of Ukraine under our control. We need to do this quickly. And then, regarding the occupied territory of Ukraine, Ukraine will be able to return it through diplomatic means," Zelensky said.

According to him, a cease-fire is necessary to "ensure that Putin does not return to seize more territory in Ukraine.
Zelensky stressed that NATO must immediately cover the part of Ukraine that remains under Kiev's control, because Ukraine needs it, otherwise Putin will return.
