In Upper Austria, five teenagers were hospitalized following the explosion of ammunition under a campfire. Police discovered another dangerous object at the scene.

Five children aged between 10 and 14 were injured in northern Austria on Saturday evening when a "war artifact" exploded under their campfire. This was reported by Reuters with reference to a police statement, according to UNN.

The children were part of a group that had traveled from another part of the same federal state of Upper Austria. The incident occurred near the village of Sankt Oswald bei Freistadt, where organized youth groups often set up camps, a state police spokesperson said.

After the explosion, police inspected a nearby campfire site and discovered another explosive object, also described as a "war artifact." Bomb disposal experts were called in to neutralize it.

An investigation is currently underway to determine how the war artifacts ended up under the campfire site,

The severity of the children's injuries was not specified; according to law enforcement, they were taken to a children's hospital in the nearby city of Linz.

Although World War II munitions are still found in Austria, such incidents are rare.
