Ukraine has called on the IAEA to respond immediately to another instance of Russian nuclear terror, to dispatch a relevant mission to document the consequences of the attack, and to provide an international assessment of Russia's actions. The Ministry of Energy recalled that today Russia launched a UAV strike on one of the buildings of the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility (CSFSF). As a result of the hit, the specified building was partially destroyed and a fire broke out, which has since been extinguished.
There are no casualties. The radiation background at the CSFSF industrial site remains within normal limits.
However, the very fact of a strike on a spent nuclear fuel management infrastructure facility is an unprecedented threat to nuclear and radiation safety. Such actions create risks of damage to critical systems upon which the safe storage of nuclear materials depends, and constitute a gross violation of international law, nuclear safety principles, and the fundamental principles of the IAEA
