Iran is "weeks rather than months" away from possessing enough enriched uranium to make an atomic bomb, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi told DW, UNN reports .

Details

According to him, it is not yet possible to conclude that Iran has such weapons right now, although the level of uranium enrichment is worrisome.

Iran's assurances that nuclear technology is needed for "medical and civilian" purposes raise questions about why "such volumes" of enriched uranium and "such a speed" of its production are needed for this purpose,

- Grossi said.

The head of the agency also added that fears are exacerbated by the fact that the IAEA does not have the necessary level of visibility into the activities of its Iranian colleagues.

Recall

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson saidthat nuclear weapons have no place in Iran's nuclear doctrine, reiterating the country's position that the program serves only peaceful purposes.

The statement came after the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that Tehran could change its nuclear policy because of Israel's actions.
