"ICIP added a new element to the National List of Elements of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Ukraine. This is, in particular, the Horodok stitch or Horodok stitch embroidery technique," the statement reads.

The element is common in the town of Horodok and the villages of Uhry, Bratkovychi, and Cherliany in Lviv Oblast. Similar techniques can be practiced in other parts of Ukraine, as well as abroad, for example, in Poland.

The embroidery technique, called "Horodok shiv," was first recorded in 1887 at an ethnographic exhibition in Ternopil, where men's and women's clothing from the village of Kernytsia, Horodok district, was presented.

Today, the Horodok stitch is not only an embroidery technique, but also a symbol of the community's history and identity. In addition, creating an embroidered shirt is a family value. Wherever the community's natives are, embroidered shirts decorated with Horodok stitches tell about their identity and their spiritual roots.

The Ministry of Culture has included a program to protect the tradition of covering houses with straw and reeds in the National List of Cultural Heritage01.08.24, 17:30 • [views_14881]
