The House Ethics Committee has released a report after investigating former Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz. This was reported by The Washington Post, according to UNN.
Details
US President-elect Donald Trump was going to appoint him to the post of Attorney General, but Goetz withdrew his candidacy after being accused of sexual harassment of a 17-year-old girl.
The Committee's report states that the investigation proved that Goetz “violated House rules and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, sexual intercourse with minors, use of illegal drugs, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress.”
It is noted that the report provides “substantial evidence” that from 2017 to 2020, Goetz “regularly paid women to engage in sexual relations with him” and from 2017 to 2019, he possessed illegal drugs, including cocaine and ecstasy, “on several different occasions”.
The Committee also looked into Goetz's trip to the Bahamas in 2018, where he accepted transportation and lodging as a gift. In addition, it is noted that the former congressman “knowingly and intentionally attempted to obstruct the Committee's investigation of his conduct.
The Washington Post writes that the commission has been conducting a “years-long investigation” into Goetz and the allegations against him. Sources say the commission's report was allegedly delayed after he became Trump's nominee for attorney general.
Recall
Matt Goetz has withdrawn his candidacy for Attorney General after meetings with Republican senators. The decision is related to the Ethics Committee's investigation into allegations of sexual harassment.
