According to a Morning Consult poll released on August 5, US Vice President Kamala Harris has given the Democrats their biggest lead over former President Donald Trump in almost a year. Harris has 48% of the support of voters against 44% for Donald Trump.  This was reported by Newsweek, according to UNN

Details

Morning Consult reported that the survey was conducted from August 2 to 4. A total of 11,265 voters were interviewed.

It is noted that Harris's advantage is "a record high margin in her favor" and "the largest advantage of a Democratic presidential candidate over Trump in almost a year," according to the poll.

For example, on August 16, 2023, President Joe Biden was 5 points ahead of Trump among national voters polled by Morning Consult. The day before Biden dropped out of the 2024 race, he was 6 points behind the former president (47% vs. 41%).

Harris also leads Trump by 5 points among independent voters (42 percent to 37 percent) in a poll released on Monday, and is ahead of the former president by 9 points among young voters aged 18 to 34 (49 percent to 40 percent). The poll has a margin of error of 1 percentage point.

The vice president also has a higher favorability rating than Trump: 48 percent of voters say they have a favorable view of Harris, compared to 47 percent who have an unfavorable view of Trump.

Trump's favorability rating was negative - 46 percent of voters said they had a favorable view of the former president, while 52 percent considered him unfavorable.

In just two weeks since her nomination for the presidency, Harris has gained the upper hand in the race. At the end of last week, the vice president was leading in eight national polls. Trump's campaign had previously warned his team about Harris's "honeymoon period" within weeks of the vice presidential campaign.

According to a New York Times poll, Trump is still ahead of Harris by 1 percentage point (48% vs. 47%), although the gap between the two candidates has narrowed in recent days. If independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is included in the poll, then, according to the Times, Harris and Trump are tied at 44%.

Harris also made gains in several crucial battleground states. According to the average of polls conducted by the 2024 Silver Bulletin, as of Friday, the vice president was leading in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

According to the Times, the polling averages showed Harris and Trump tied in Wisconsin and Michigan, although the vice president was 2 percentage points behind in Pennsylvania as of Monday.
