Germany and France have reached a "breakthrough" agreement on the development of MGCS tanks. The agreement on the start of the first stage of development includes an agreement to evenly distribute industrial volumes between the two countries. This was reported by UNN with reference to Reuters.
"Berlin and Paris have reached a 'breakthrough' on how to develop the planned next-generation tank, known as the 'Main Ground Combat System' (MGCS), and divide the task between the two countries," the newspaper writes.
It is noted that the tank, which is to replace the outdated Leopard in Germany and Leclerc in France, is the second major arms industry project between the two countries, along with their ambitions to create a next-generation fighter known as FCAS.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that the agreement to start the first phase of development, which will be signed in Paris on April 26, includes an agreement to evenly distribute industrial volumes between the two countries.
The tank manufacturer KNDS is a holding company formed by France's Nexter and Germany's Krauss-Maffei-Wegmann.
