Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has threatened President Salome Zourabichvili with criminal liability if she does not leave the presidential residence by December 29. This is reported by UNN with reference to News – Georgia.
Details
Nobody wants to put a 72-year-old woman in prison, but her actions could lead to a violation of the Criminal Code. This will expose not only her, but also those who remain with her in the residence. I am sure that she will have enough common sense to avoid this.
Have protests lost support?
Kobakhidze claims that protests in Georgia are losing scale. According to him, Saturday's demonstration on Rustaveli Avenue gathered only about 3,000 people. The prime minister called the video footage showing a large crowd of protesters old, although they clearly show this year's New Year's symbols.
"People no longer participate in actions. The radical opposition is in a state of emotional breakdown, they failed to provoke the police or create a tense situation," Kobakhidze said.
No snap elections will be held
The Prime Minister also ruled out the possibility of new elections, calling such demands "comical." According to him, the Central Election Commission, the Constitutional Court, and the Parliament have confirmed the legitimacy of the last elections, and the government continues to fulfill its duties.
He concluded that there are no grounds for snap elections. These demands are just an attempt at destabilization.
Recall
In Georgia, a large-scale "Chain of Unity" action was announced for December 28. The action will last one hour. The Prime Minister of Georgia threatened the president with prison and rejected the possibility of snap elections.
