Today, in addition to the Ukrainian military, 4 civilian residents of the Sumy region, who were forcibly removed from their homes by the Russian military in 2025, were successfully returned home. Among those returned are civilians aged 61 to 85. Today they successfully returned to Ukraine and will soon be reunited with their relatives
He noted that the return was the result of preliminary work within the framework of a humanitarian dialogue with the Russian Commissioner for Human Rights Tatyana Moskalkova on the territory of Belarus, as well as with the participation of the Chair of the Belarusian Parliamentary Committee on Social Protection and Labor, Irina Kostevich.
The actions of the Russian Federation are a gross violation of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War. Peaceful residents cannot be the object of illegal transfer or forced deportation. However, Russia continues to systematically violate the rights of Ukrainian citizens. Ukraine works every day to bring every single person home. I congratulate our citizens on their return to Ukraine
As a reminder
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the first stage of a "1000 for 1000" exchange — 205 Ukrainians are home, most of whom had been in Russian captivity since 2022.
