Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter and former UEFA President Michel Platini were acquitted by a Swiss court on Tuesday on corruption charges. The charges related to fraud, forgery of documents, mismanagement and misappropriation of $2.26 million in FIFA money in 2011, UNN writes with reference to DW.

Earlier, both FIFA officials were acquitted by a lower court in 2022, but the Swiss prosecutor's office appealed the decision."After two acquittals, even the Swiss Attorney General's Office should realize that these criminal proceedings have finally failed. Michel Platini should finally get peace in criminal cases," Platini's lawyer Dominique Nellen said in a statement on Tuesday.

Former UEFA and FIFA presidents Michel Platini and Sepp Blatter appeared in court on fraud charges, for which they were acquitted in 2022.

Nevertheless, the prosecutor appealed the decision of the lower court, and the criminal case was transferred to the Extraordinary Appeals Chamber of the Swiss Criminal Court.

The prosecutor intended to prove that Platini and Blatter unlawfully distributed two million Swiss francs between themselves for consulting work in 2010 and 2011.

The federal prosecutor demanded a sentence of 20 months in prison with a two-year suspended sentence for the former officials.

At the same time, 88-year-old Blatter said that he is absolutely confident in the success of his lawyer in the fight against the state prosecution.
