A former commander of the "Berkut" company has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for destroying weapons used to shoot protesters on Maidan on February 20, 2014, as well as for concealing evidence and causing almost UAH 680,000 in damages to the state. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, writes UNN.

Prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General proved in court the guilt of the former commander of the special forces company of the Kyiv "Berkut" regiment ("black company"). He was sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison for destroying weapons used to shoot protesters in the center of Kyiv on February 20, 2014.

It was established that he played a key role in concealing evidence after the Maidan events - he organized the removal of weapons from the unit's deployment site, including 24 AKMS assault rifles, a Dragunov sniper rifle, three Fort-500 shotguns, and Fort-12 pistols.

The weapons were cut up, markings were removed, one part of the fragments was drowned in the Vita River, and the other part was buried on the bank to prevent identification.

He was found guilty of abuse of power and illegal removal of weapon markings. In addition to imprisonment, the court ordered the recovery of almost UAH 680,000 in material damages in favor of the state.
