In Kharkiv, a deputy to Mayor Ihor Terekhov was involved in a fatal traffic accident. As reported by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, primary investigative actions are currently underway to establish all the circumstances and the mechanics of the road traffic accident, UNN reports.
Under the procedural guidance of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation is being carried out into the violation of traffic safety rules that caused the death of the victim (Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to preliminary investigation data, on May 28, at around 4:00 PM, at the intersection of Klochkivska St. and Kravtsova Ln. in Kharkiv, the driver of a FORD F150, while performing a left turn maneuver, failed to yield the right of way to a KAWASAKI NINJA ZX-6R motorcycle traveling in the oncoming lane. As a result, a collision occurred.
The motorcycle driver died from his injuries in an emergency medical vehicle. The deceased was 43 years old.
The Deputy Mayor of Kharkiv, Ivan Kuznietsov, was behind the wheel of the car. He also released information about the accident on his social media page.
"Unfortunately, I was involved in a road traffic accident that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist. This is a great tragedy, and I sincerely sympathize with the family and loved ones. I began moving after other cars stopped and gave me the opportunity to pass. The motorcycle was traveling at high speed, and due to the other vehicles, neither he nor I were effectively visible to each other until the moment of collision,"
He added that to avoid any doubts regarding potential influence on the investigation, "for the duration of the investigative actions, I am resigning from my duties as deputy mayor."

As reported by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, it has been preliminarily established that the driver of the car was sober.
Primary investigative actions are currently ongoing; recordings from CCTV cameras are being seized and analyzed, and all circumstances and the mechanics of the road traffic accident are being established.
Following the necessary investigative actions, the issue of serving the driver with a notice of suspicion will be decided.
