Decentralization of generating capacities will help protect the power system from massive missile terror - Kudrytskyi

The head of Ukrenergo, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, believes that the only way to protect the Ukrainian power system from Russian attacks is to decentralize generating capacities by building many small power plants. Kudrytsky said this during a briefing, UNN reports.

Details

According to Kudrytsky, it will be quite difficult to indefinitely restore damaged power plants that were built in the 60s and 70s of the last century, and all of them have been damaged almost repeatedly.

"Of course, their technical condition does not get better from these attacks. The Ukrainian energy system is heavily dependent on a small number of power plants and the destruction of these power plants is what the enemy is doing. This concentration of generation at just a few sites is what leads to serious problems when the enemy uses massive shelling. That is why we, as power system operators, are responsible for modeling the power system for the future - what needs to be done, how the power system should develop. And we understand that the only sustainable way to protect the power system from such massive terror is to decentralize generating capacities," said Kudrytskyi.

He emphasized that this means that instead of having, for example, 15 or 20 large power plants, it is necessary to build hundreds of small power plants that will be more resistant to massive attacks due to their dispersion.

"The number of missiles that we are seeing now, which are hitting a certain number of targets, will not cause (the attack - ed.) such severe, complex consequences for the power system as in the case when we are heavily dependent on a very small number of power plants," Kudrytsky added.

Recall

Last night, the enemy damaged a large energy facility in the Kharkiv region. Electricity restrictions are in effect in Kharkiv. Electricity restrictions, but for industrial consumers, are also in effect in Dnipropetrovs'k region.
