The Central Analytical Laboratory at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which was looted by russian troops during the occupation, has been restored by 40% with the help of international partners.

The restoration of the Central Analytical Laboratory, which was looted by the russian military during the occupation, continues with the participation of Ukraine's international partners. Maksym Shevchuk, Deputy Head of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, said this during a telethon, a UNN correspondent reports.

According to him, one of the Agency's new functions is to restore the Chornobyl NPP facilities after the occupation. Ukraine is carrying out this work in cooperation with international partners - the IAEA, the European Commission, the U.S. Department of Energy, etc.

He added that the key areas of work, including the radiation monitoring system and the prevention of radionuclides outside the exclusion zone, were restored quickly enough and we continue to restore the material base that was stolen or destroyed. In particular, work is underway to restore the unique Central Analytical Laboratory.

The Central Analytical Laboratory was damaged but not destroyed. It is possible to restore it. A year and a half ago, we approved a restoration plan with the European Commission and found the resources to do so. The laboratory is now 40 percent restored, including new computers with new software

During the occupation, the russian military looted the state-of-the-art Central Analytical Laboratory in Chornobyl worth 6 million euros. The laboratory performed strategic functions. In particular, it provided services at any stage of radioactive waste management, from conditioning to disposal, as well as at the stage of research and technology development.
