Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Moscow on Monday for talks with the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the aggressor state, Sergei Lavrov, to discuss the establishment of a truce between Russia and Ukraine, UNN writes with reference to AP.
Details
Wang will meet with Lavrov on Tuesday, a few days after Trump, during negotiations with Zelenskyy and Putin, tried to convince them to agree on a limited ceasefire. It remains to be seen when such a truce may take effect, how long it will last and what goals will be prohibited.
Earlier on Sunday, May 30, Trump expressed disappointment with Zelenskyy and Putin. At the same time, Trump tried to convince journalists that "we are making significant progress", he admitted that there is "huge hatred" between the two people. He said he was "angry, furious" that Putin questioned Zelenskyy's credibility.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Go Jiakun, in comments consistent with China's position, stressed Beijing's claim of neutrality in the Ukrainian conflict.
We always believe that dialogue and negotiations are the only viable way out of the crisis. China's cooperation with Russia is not aimed at a third party and should not be affected by any third party
In its report on Wang's visit, China made no mention of Ukraine, noting only that the two countries "continue to deepen mutual strategic coordination and expand practical cooperation in various fields" and "uphold the basic norms governing international relations."
The Chinese side is ready to take this visit as an opportunity to work with the Russian side... on international and regional issues of common interest
China has provided strong diplomatic support to Russia for more than three years after it launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, along with an economic lifeline through trade in energy and consumer goods.
However, China has deliberately not provided Russia with weapons or shared military experience. He also put forward a vague peace plan, which was quickly rejected by most observers.
Addition
Trump said that Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy allegedly wants to abandon the agreement on mining rare earth minerals, and warned the President of Ukraine about serious problems if he does so.
Trump also said on Sunday evening that Russia has a "psychological deadline" to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine. He stated this shortly after he expressed disappointment with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
