At least 17 people were killed in a bus crash that derailed and fell into a ravine on a mountain road in the state of Alagoas in southeastern Brazil. This is reported by AFP, UNN reports.

According to information, rescuers initially reported 23 dead, but later local authorities clarified that the number of victims was lower.
The incident occurred on Sunday in the remote Serra de Barriga mountain range, near the city of Uniao dos Palmares.
According to local authorities, the bus fell from a height of more than 20 meters.
There were 40 passengers on the bus, 20 of whom were injured.
Rescue operations are ongoing.
