The UK's Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre on Thursday, April 30, raised the national threat level in the country from "substantial" (meaning an attack is likely) to "severe" (meaning an attack is highly likely within the next 6 months). This was reported by UNN with reference to the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Details
This occurred following a knife attack in the Golders Green area of North London, which took place on April 29 and was anti-Semitic in nature. At that time, an unidentified man stabbed two people in an area home to a large Jewish community.
Media later reported that the detained perpetrator has mental health issues. At the same time, the center clarified that the terrorist threat in Britain has been increasing for some time.
This is driven by an intensification of the overall Islamist and far-right terrorist threat from individuals and small groups based in the UK, the country's government stated.
UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood expressed her condolences to the families of the attack victims and thanked the proactive volunteers and emergency services.
Additionally
Amid the escalating threat, the UK government announced increased investment to protect Jewish communities, which have been the primary target of recent attacks. This involves an additional £25 million, which is approximately 34 million US dollars.
The total amount of funds allocated by the government for counter-terrorism and security measures stands at £58 million. This is approximately 79 million US dollars.
As a reminder
The United Kingdom has agreed to create a joint naval force with nine European countries to deter future threats from Russia.
