The US President has approved the supply of anti-personnel mines to Ukraine, despite previous restrictions. The mines will be used only in areas that the US recognizes as part of Ukraine.

The current US President Joe Biden has approved the decision to supply anti-personnel mines to Ukraine. This was reported by The Washington Post, according to UNN.

Details

According to U.S. officials, the anti-personnel mines will be used only in areas that Washington recognizes as part of Ukraine, due to the need to strengthen defenses against possible attacks by Russian troops. This decision is a departure from the policy that the Biden administration introduced in 2022, limiting the use of such mines, which until now was allowed only on the Korean Peninsula.

It is noted that during his election campaign, Biden opposed the lifting of restrictions on the use of anti-personnel mines when the Donald Trump administration decided to allow their use. At the time, Biden called this step irresponsible, emphasizing the danger of such mines to civilians.
