The incident occurred in the evening on the terrace of a restaurant located on the first floor of a hotel in the capital’s Pecherskyi district. Police established that the 36-year-old offender had been harassing the establishment’s employees, behaving aggressively, and threatening the staff with physical violence.
When one of the patrons made a remark, the offender provoked a fight and struck the 41-year-old man several times with a utility knife in the head and shoulder area. As a result of the attack, the victim sustained numerous facial injuries and a fractured nasal bone.
Law enforcement officers detained the attacker pursuant to Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and seized the weapon used in the crime.
Investigators from the Pechersk Police Department, under the procedural guidance of the Pechersk District Prosecutor’s Office, notified the detainee that he was suspected of hooliganism, namely a gross violation of public order committed with the use of an object specially adapted to inflict bodily injuries (under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The article carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison.
The district court has currently ordered the offender to be held in custody, with the right to post bail.
